How To Make A Container Garden Tower Out Of Reclaimed Materials.wmv

Shawna Coronado shows how to be green and sustainable by reclaiming – reusing a series of old planting containers. She paints the containers, then builds a special planting tower with the recycled pots, creating a green and eco-friendly way to make an environmental difference in your garden. Hi Shawna Great planter. I dont see how you recycled these pots? Its a brand new potting system isnt it ? I have lots of old plastic pots in my shed & plan to make faux rocks with them for my yard next year…worked on the inside of the house this year & outdoors got a lick & a promise.

@mukwah1111 How I reused them is these containers were originally purchased years ago. I was about ready to throw them out since they were old and moldy looking. I painted them, used the inserts and found a new creative way to make them work together even though all the pot designs “don’t match” – by painting them a similar color I recreated their look and brought all the pots together with this blue color. Essentially I was able to reclaim the containers and use them for something new.

these containers looks like they were bought for this purpose and not something that you have used before and are not reusing it.

  • TheCasualGardener says:

@4GreenEarth2 Nope. They were in my garden for many years set all around instead of on top of one another. They used to be terra cotta color – I painted them and reused them. If you look closely you can see that the containers don’t all match in shape – that’s because I had to find some that worked to fit well inside of each other because I did not have enough of one design. Yeeeaaahh… but it’s more like reusing planters instead of recycle.

  • Illchangeitlater says:

Hmmmm, I would use some bricks or rocks rather than those platforms. So you can have moor room for soil and palnt more usefull plants(fruits and veggies) that need much more root space instead of flowers. But I guess it could work for herbs too, but it just seems like a waste of a nice deep planter otherwise.

  • TheCasualGardener says:

@Illchangeitlater Annual plants don’t use as much soil, so do not need to be planted in a “full planter” . I will consider using veggies in the future – thanks!
