John I live in CT and thanks to your inspiration I have built 2 raised bed gardens in my front yard. They are 4ft by 12ft and currently growing lots of organic lettuce and peppers. I found some local rock dust that I hope will be okay, I cannot find a dealer of Azomite in my area. I will try to send you a picture if I can. Thanks for the inspiration and please keep making the videos!

I really enjoyed the first video on Jason’s garden as I do this update. Thanks to both of you!
Having fun growing up here in Montana. We just passed our last average frost date! Although I’ve had plants growing for about a month and a half outside thanks to my cold frames. Loving my greenhouse as well : )

I have learned so much valuable information from your videos. I learned allot from watching my Mom in the garden and tinkering around with gardening myself over the last 20 some years, but I have found a renewed passion and creative spark from you. I have started some raised beds for what is going to be the best garden I’ve ever had and I can’t wait to share it with my Mom and family to improve our health and well-being. Much gratitude from one of your fans:)
    Love, Karrie from Modesto, CA.

I literally built 120 sf worth of raised beds today because of you. I had been planting other areas, but you inspired me to get more bio-intensive. Outstanding work! Now I’m off to transplant some seedlings. Get GROWING!

    Hey John-

I got the Mel Square Foot Gardening Book this year and started watching your videos about 6 months ago. I have watched probably 80% of them and now every new one that comes out I watch!

I have also started growing in my backyard based on the book and your advice! I have 6 – 4 by 4 boxes. Growing a ton of romaine lettuce, carrots, jalapenos, cherry tomatoes, onions, corn and a bunch of stuff. Whole family is eating salads every day! Losing weight also!

Good idea about growing small peppers.

  • sbgrower000 says:

Thanks to you mentioning in your video about the $ .50 tomato and pepper plants, I purchased 30 of them and presented them as gifts to my friends and neighbors in hopes to get some of them growing more of their own food. I even had enough to give a half dozen of them to a friend of mine who works with mentally handicapped adults. He was inspired to start growing food in containers around the home so that he can teach the people he works with about growing food and where food comes from.

  • growingyourgreens says:

Wow! Thats a great Idea! I will mention that next time in the video to encourage others to share the plants!

  • cndoorack9 says:

John, I live in Vegas but my back courtyard is shaded and doesn’t get 100% Sun. What would grow well in a hot and shady environment?

i’ve watched a ton of your videos in the past couple weeks, been sharing them with friends and family and have spent a good amount of time with my veggie plants. i was super nervous about all the rain we had in northern california the past week but my tomatoes, pumpkins, japanese eggplants, and kale loved the swim. i was worried they’d drown. your videos are really fun and inspirational. i’ve been preaching the words of john kohler to everyone i talk to.

  • fbmbassist says:

I’ve learned so much from your videos I can’t even put it into words! I always wanted to grow my own food, and watching your videos gave me the motivation and knowledge I needed. Like you say, the most important thing is to just get started! Once you start, you learn so much on your own and you gain the confidence to keep going (even when you hit challenges).

  • fbmbassist says:

@fbmbassist Here’s what I’m growing in containers: dwarf lemon tree, cherry tomatoes, blueberries, strawberries, aloe (propagated from pups, which I learned to do from your video!), basil, chives…and I have lots of seeds for greens that I need to get started. It stays pretty mild where I live in Oakland, so I think I can grow lettuce and kale in the shadier parts of my balcony and it won’t bolt too fast. I’m using mostly compost and rock dust (that I got from you at the Raw Health Expo).

  • fatdan121 says:

Hey John, I actually started three raised beds in my front lawn here in Orlando Florida after watching your videos. Right now I am growing cherry and steak tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno’s, lettuce, squash, a few spices, carrots, radish’s, etc. The beds are 3×6 and we are currently in the process of making compost for compost tea.
