GrowingPotatoes in a container garden is easy. This potatogarden is filled with Idaho potato buds that were originally store bought from the supermarket, but sat around too long and sprouted. I thought I would give it a try and grow the potatoes in a container garden bucket.

I did drill holes in the bottom, about a dozen, 3/8 inch, covered with landscape fabric to allow drainage but to keep dirt from clogging holes. One thought I had afterward, the fabric itself may clog from dirt in the fabric pores, and it might have been better to fill the bottom with pea-gravel about an inch or two instead.
Best Video on potatoes I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many!!! I want to grow these indoor as well and all year long. Best staple food on the planet. What’s funny is that I just bought the same container you show here in your video. Same color, size, everything. Great minds think alike. Anyway, I’ve subscribed to your blog and hope to get to know more about you. I’m looking to grow year round with self watering containers for lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, etc. Thanks for the visual.
Good video. But the best part was your little audience member in the beginning. Such a good student, very curious and observant listener…I was impressed and he had me laughing. But then : ( I guess he lost interest and got bored – he actually yawned – and decided to make one last & final observance via his best, most reliable sense (sniff) to make sure he wasn’t missing out on anything before leaving!
When you are done with that plastic pot, will you reuse it for another garden of potatoes or something else? In other words, are you very concerned with disease being transferred from one crop to the next? Thank you.
Your dog is so cute…..
Thanks for your videos. I like them very much and find them helpful. Your garden pal is very cute.
what about watering them? How often do you water them? Also did u drill holes in the bottom of the container?

Congratulations, you did the impossible. When I told people I intended to grow potatoes, every one said, don’t use store bought. Great looking plants.
